El Soldado Mine
Project Description
The El Soldado mine, located in the Region V of Chile, is an active underground and open-pit copper mine owned and operated by Anglo American Chile. Active since 1842, this operation mines, processes and manages an estimated 115 million ton ore body, which results in the generation of copper tailings that are stored in up to five tailings storage facilities.
Anglo American retained RGC to undertake a comprehensive hydrogeological investigation including:
- Data review
- Site characterization work
- Numerical modelling of groundwater flow & solute transport.
This investigation is designed to provide specialist guidance for the design of a seepage interception system (SIS).
